STAUD’s translucent rework of the New Balance 57/40
The 57/40 is one of several collaborations between New Balance and STAUD. The fourth of these collections draws inspiration from their tagline “Classic Then, Classic Now.” The collaborations often rework classic ideas and take cues from past sports moments and 80s workout videos. Here, we take a closer look at the reworked 57/40 by STAUD.
STAUD’s 57/40 rework features a translucent panel on the forefoot, enabling wearers to create a classic sock look with socks. The chunky curvy sole unit further bolsters the 57/40’s vintage aesthetic. This rework also comes with interchangeable lace colors. A pair with different colors of lace will complement any outfit perfectly.
The ’57/40′ is a collaboration between New Balance 57 and the fashion label STAUD. Based on the ‘574’, this silhouette draws inspiration from ’80s and ’90s designs. The uppers are made of smooth leather and mesh, and include reflective trims. The oversized ‘N’ logo on the front is a signature detail of the line.
The collaboration between New Balance and STAUD is continuing to produce some classic sneakers. The latest releases from the STAUD and New Balance collaboration are the 574 and 57/40. The collection is based on the concept “Classic Then, Classic Now”. The 574 and 57/40 are constructed with a simple grey foundation, paired with fun injections of colour. Both models are available in unisex sizes.
The BAPE x New Balance 57/40 is a lifestyle sneaker that features a mix of the two brands’ signature styles. The 57/40 is built with the DNA of the 574, while the sizing and panelling are in line with the style of BAPE. These sneakers are expected to be released in 2022. Although the release date and price information have not been confirmed yet, the sneaker is expected to hit the market soon.
A reworked version of the classic 574 silhouette, the New Balance 57/40 is made with leather, mesh, and suede. The upper is made of premium suede and mesh, and the co-branding appears on the tongue tag. The “N” logo features Bape’s signature camo print, while a shark motif completes the look. The shoes will also be accompanied by matching apparel.
Previously, BAPE and New Balance collaborated on the 2002R silhouette, but this time around the two companies have created a new collaborative collection. The BAPE x NB 57/40 comes in several colorways. Among the models is the grey, green, and multi-color, which are exclusive to the BAPE web store. The brand also has apparel to accompany the new sneakers, including t-shirts, cotton shorts, and 6-panel caps.
In addition to the “N” logo, the shoes have New Balance 57 motifs on the uppers. The suede uppers and the base are made of gray and black mesh, while silver cloth is used for the eyestays and collar areas. The shoes also feature an oversized “N” logo etched in various colors. They also have Ape Head and Shark Face motifs on the tongue tabs and heels.
Kawhi Leonard’s Sunrise colorway
The Kawhi Leonard KAWHI II will make its debut this March 19, alongside special apparel for the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. This pair of basketball shoes will retail for $160 and will be made with the help of New Balance’s partnership with NBA star Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi Leonard and New Balance have partnered on many lifestyle and sneaker projects, and the new KAWHI II is no exception. It’s engineered to deliver maximum performance and incorporates new technologies, including FitWeave Lite, which provides adaptive stretch and support where needed.
The New Balance 57/40 Kawhi Leonard’s “Sunrise” colorway features a full-length performance plate for stability, cutting, and jumping. The upper is engineered with Fit Weave Lite, a lightweight mesh material with fibers woven into it for greater lockdown. The outsole and upper are shaped to mimic Leonard’s hand as he clutches his basketball shoe. The brand has become increasingly popular with athletes and non-sports enthusiasts alike, and the Kawhi Leonard’s sneakers are no exception.
Other collaborations with New Balance
The ’57/40′ is a contemporary take on the New Balance 57 silhouette, which was originally created by New Balance as an experiment in 1988. Inspired by the ’80s go-anywhere sneaker, the sneaker comes in a light brown and off-white color palette and features a perforated tongue tag and hairy suede uppers. The shoe’s oversized ‘N’ branding is an homage to the iconic sneaker.
Vides’ latest collaboration with the New Balance 57/40 model is also expected to drop in 2022. The sneaker features stenciled messages and a “Made in Studio” tagline. The shoe also features a spray-painted smiley face and hand-drawn branding. Known for his innovative designs and unique approaches to footwear, Vides has been creating a range of sneakers and is the most recent to collaborate with the brand.
Previously the king of streetwear, Bape has recently been in the flop category. This year, the streetwear label has been on a downward spiral, and its latest collaboration with New Balance will see the two brands blending their worlds. They previously collaborated on a 2002R silhouette and are expected to deliver two new 57/40 colorways in summer ’22. They are currently on sale at select retailers, and if you purchase them, Footwear News may receive an affiliate commission.
Other collaborations with New Balance 57/41 are expected to include Bape’s latest ‘Bape Camo’ sneaker. Made of a mix of suede and mesh, the New Balance ‘Bape Camo’ graphic is embroidered on the heel and tongue. It also features a shark motif on the tongue tab. Another collaboration with the ‘Bape Camo’ brand includes a matching bape t-shirt.
